Essential oils

Essential oils and “the season of germs”

Hi everyone! Hope you are all doing well, but if you are like the majority of people out there during this time of year, you are fighting off colds, coughs, flu or someone you live with or work with is fighting off these little stealthy microbes that seem to invade everything. It seems to run ramped around this time of year. I call this the season of germs yikes!!!

Most of us are cooped up inside due to weather, and days are shorter, so we are definitely not getting our daily dose of fresh air and sunshine to fight off the invasion germs, and build up our immune systems. Not to mention they just have a hay day in our warm cozy, closed up indoor environments. So, as promised, here is a little essential oil blend I like to use when I start feeling a little germfest coming on.

Eucalyptus and Peppermint – I make this one on the strong side. Diffuse 6 to 10 drops of eucalyptus EO, and 4 to 6 drops of peppermint EO together.

  • Eucalyptus EO benefits – (one of my absolute favorite winter time oils that I keep well stocked) useful for a number or respiratory problems, including cold, cough, runny nose, sore throat, nasal congestion, and can help with asthma symptoms. Eucalyptus oil is antibacterial, anti-fungal, antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and a decongestant. It also has a cooling and refreshing effect to help stimulate your system and fight off viruses and bacteria better. The antiseptic and deodorizing nature of eucalyptus oil makes it a perfect room freshener. It helps kill bacteria and germs in the air, aiding in keeping the air you breathe cleaner and more sanitized, thus reducing the chances of air borne organisms spreading. I consider this EO a must for winter months.
  • Peppermint EO benefits – just the scent of peppermint immediately begins to cool and calm your sinuses, when they have gone haywire. It is a natural antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal and analgesic, not to mention it is very soothing for respiratory problems. Peppermint is also a stress reliever and energy booster, and lets face it who can’t use an energy boost when they are feeling run down.

There are many other wonderful benefits to both of these oils but I will save those for future posts. I truly hope you try them to see the great effect they have when your feeling under the weather with a cold, cough, flu, or even just to relax and refresh those long winter nights, and short winter days! Boost your immunity, cleanse and freshen your air with this wonderfully aromatic diffusion and the most important part – relax and enjoy!!!

Wishing you all health and wellness –

Penni
